The arrest, officially confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, marks a significant stride in combating organized vehicle theft in the region.

The arrest unfolded when police operatives from Elere Division were engaged in a stop-and-search foot patrol along Agege Motor Road. During the routine operation, they intercepted a Sienna Space Bus containing four individuals. As the officers questioned the occupants, the situation escalated, leading to the suspects abruptly disembarking and attempting to flee on foot.

Despite the suspects’ attempts to escape, the law enforcement officers managed to apprehend one individual identified as John, aged 28, while the others successfully evaded capture. John claimed that he had been contracted by an unidentified suspect, who is still at large, to drive the vehicle from Abeokuta, Ogun’s capital, to Ijora in Lagos. He further stated that two other suspects joined the vehicle on the way to Lagos before the police intervention.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the seized vehicle had been unlawfully taken from its parked location in Kemta, Ogun. The detained suspect, John, and the vehicle are currently in police custody, with ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining members of the car theft syndicate. The arrest signifies a significant blow against organized crime in the realm of vehicle theft, showcasing the effectiveness of police operations in curbing such criminal activities.
