Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has expressed confidence in the political future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party remains a major force in Nigeria’s democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999.

Lamido made the remarks during the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council at the party’s state headquarters in Dutse, Jigawa State, where he urged members to intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The former governor, a founding member of the PDP, argued that the party had endured years of political changes and setbacks that led to the decline or collapse of other political platforms.

He expressed optimism that the PDP would remain relevant in the country’s political landscape, insisting that its history and resilience positioned it to play a significant role in Nigeria’s future.

Lamido also called on Nigerians to carefully assess the performance of previous PDP administrations against that of the current All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government before deciding which candidates to support in the next general elections.

He urged voters to learn from past electoral decisions, arguing that a critical evaluation of the achievements and shortcomings of successive administrations would help them make informed choices in 2027.

The former governor further criticised the APC-led administration, accusing it of failing to adequately address the challenges facing Nigerians.

In Jigawa State, Lamido raised concerns over the condition of the healthcare and education sectors, alleging that hospitals were struggling with inadequate medical services and shortages of essential drugs, while the education system continued to deteriorate.

He maintained that the state and the country needed capable and experienced leadership to tackle these challenges and improve the welfare of citizens.

Addressing party supporters, Lamido assured them that the PDP was prepared to campaign for its candidates across all levels of government in the 2027 elections, including the presidency, National Assembly and state assemblies.

He also pledged that the party would conduct its campaigns peacefully, without resorting to insults, intimidation or personal attacks against political opponents.

Lamido said the party’s priority was to promote good governance, address public concerns and restore confidence in political leadership.

His remarks come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates over governance, public services and electoral performance expected to shape political campaigns nationwide.
