Lecturer’s Betrayal: Lagos Court Hands Life Sentence For Student’s Rape

A Lagos State court has sentenced Kolawole Muyiwa, a part-time lecturer at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education—now Lagos State University of Education, Oto-Ijanikin—to life imprisonment for the rape of a student……..READ MORE

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court delivered the verdict on Thursday, citing the severity of the crime and the abuse of trust.

The incident occurred on October 11, 2021, and the lecturer was arraigned on October 6, 2023, where he pleaded not guilty. However, the prosecution presented strong evidence, including testimonies from the victim, a legal representative, and the investigating police officer.

In his ruling, Justice Oshodi acknowledged that the convict was a first-time offender with no prior criminal record but emphasized that his position as a lecturer placed him in a role of authority, which he grossly misused.

The judge further stated that Muyiwa’s name would be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register in accordance with Section 260 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

This ruling underscores the government’s commitment to tackling sexual violence and ensuring justice for victims.
