Let’s Settle It!” – UFC Star De Ridder Challenges Adesanya in Explosive Call-Out
UFC middleweight contender Reinier de Ridder has publicly expressed his desire to challenge Israel Adesanya, praising the Nigerian-born fighter while urging for a showdown in the octagon. According to IReporter Online, de Ridder stated that his admiration for Adesanya’s accomplishments makes the potential fight a worthy contest.
“I hold him in high regard for what he’s achieved in the sport. He still boasts one of the best records, and his recent victory over Pereira shows his enduring skill. I’m more interested in facing someone I respect, rather than fighting out of hate,” de Ridder was quoted as saying.
His remarks come as Adesanya works to reclaim his place among the elite after a rough patch in his career. The former two-time champion is currently recovering from a three-fight losing streak that began with a stunning defeat to Sean Strickland at UFC 293, which cost him his middleweight title.
While Adesanya has made it clear he prefers a rematch with Strickland in a bid to reclaim his former glory, the latter has reportedly remained unresponsive to the call-outs. The former champion has indicated his return to the UFC could happen as early as mid-September or October, depending on the response from potential opponents.
“Sean. No question. He lost his last fight. I lost mine. So let’s settle it. Want a rematch?” Adesanya said in an interview, expressing both determination and frustration at Strickland’s silence.
The comeback effort is also buoyed by a recent personal milestone for Adesanya. He was officially inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame just days earlier, with his iconic 2019 battle against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 earning a place in the promotion’s prestigious Fight Wing.
Analysts suggest that a clash between Adesanya and de Ridder could reignite fan interest and offer the Nigerian-New Zealander a high-stakes opportunity to reestablish himself in the championship race.
