Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of pupils and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, as the state government moves to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and strengthen security measures.

According to Ireporter Online, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, announced that the panel would conduct a comprehensive investigation into the kidnapping, assess the security lapses that made the attack possible, evaluate the response of relevant authorities and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Oyelade disclosed that the commission is scheduled to be inaugurated on Friday, describing the move as part of Governor Makinde’s commitment to ensuring an independent and thorough review of the incident.

The pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15 and regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity following a coordinated security operation.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, revealing that no ransom was paid to secure the release of the victims because security agencies had successfully mapped the forest where they were being held.

The President made the disclosure during a meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he also highlighted efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

Tinubu stated that the Federal Government had expanded the number of military divisions from eight to 12 to improve response times in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other security threats, stressing that the measure was necessary to enhance the nation’s security operations.
