Manchester City Complete Geronimo Rulli Signing From Marseille

Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from French club Marseille on a two-year contract.

According to Ireporter Online, the 34-year-old goalkeeper is returning to the Etihad Stadium after previously spending the 2016/17 season with Manchester City without making a first-team appearance. Reports indicate that City paid £1.7 million to secure his services.

Rulli joins the Premier League champions as a replacement for James Trafford, who recently completed a move to Leeds in a deal reportedly worth up to £45 million. The Argentine is expected to provide backup to City’s first-choice goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Speaking after completing the move, Rulli described the transfer as an opportunity he could not afford to miss, expressing his excitement about returning to Manchester and working in what he considers a high-performance environment.

The goalkeeper already has a notable connection with City’s rivals, having scored Villarreal’s decisive penalty in the 2021 Europa League final shootout against Manchester United before saving David de Gea’s effort to secure victory for the Spanish side.

Rulli has earned eight caps for Argentina and was part of the national team squads that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa America. He also featured during Argentina’s run to the 2026 World Cup final.

The goalkeeper began his European career with Real Sociedad before spells at Montpellier and Ajax, eventually joining Marseille. His return to Manchester City now gives him another opportunity to compete at the highest level of European football.
