Massive Boost For RUGIPO As TETFund Delivers ₦8.18bn Development Package
According to reports from Ireporter Online, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has so far committed a total of ₦8.18 billion to the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State for infrastructural development since 2011.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mr. Sonny Echono, disclosed this during the commissioning of five major projects at the polytechnic, held in conjunction with the institution’s combined 12th to 23rd Convocation Ceremonies. Represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arch. Babatunde Olajide, Echono revealed that RUGIPO had accessed ₦5.57 billion from the allocation, while the remaining ₦2.61 billion has been earmarked for ongoing projects within the campus.
He noted that the newly inaugurated facilities, valued at over ₦1.7 billion, include the Faculty of Applied Sciences building, Faculty of Engineering Technology building, a 250-seater twin lecture theatre, and the construction and furnishing of academic staff offices. Echono emphasized that the projects reflect the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to enhancing infrastructure and academic excellence across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Commending the management of RUGIPO for the prudent use of intervention funds, Echono said all completed projects adhered strictly to specifications despite the current economic challenges. He further urged the institution to ensure regular maintenance of all completed facilities to guarantee their longevity.
In his remarks, the Acting Rector of RUGIPO, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun, expressed gratitude to TETFund for its consistent support, which he said has transformed the institution’s academic environment. Adegun reaffirmed the polytechnic’s dedication to accountability and excellence, pledging continued effective use of all facilities.
He also appealed to TETFund to consider RUGIPO for inclusion in the 2026 Special Intervention and Special High Impact Intervention programmes, explaining that such support would enable the institution to establish a modern health centre and construct additional student hostels to address accommodation challenges.
