The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has revealed that more than one million students across Nigeria are now receiving ₦20,000 monthly through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV Politics, Yilwatda emphasized the significant impact of the NELFUND initiative on students and families nationwide. He noted that many students face challenges in paying school fees, but the program now allows them to access loans covering their tuition while also receiving a monthly allowance, whether they are in session or on holiday.

“Most students in Nigeria have difficulty paying their school fees. I know of many who had to withdraw from universities because they couldn’t afford it,” Yilwatda said. He further highlighted the resilience of students who support their families, invest in farming, or help pay the school fees of younger siblings during holidays.

According to the APC chairman, the program is open to any student in Nigeria struggling with tuition. “Register your university and put your name forward to access the student loan. We offset your entire school fees, and you get ₦20,000 every month,” he stated.

Yilwatda described NELFUND as a social protection initiative that extends support to households and parents across the country. “Over a million students have access to it, and all their parents are looking forward to more support through NELFUND,” he added.

He also mentioned other social welfare programs under the APC administration, including health insurance schemes that have benefited between four and five million Nigerians.
