MC Oluomo Has Done It Again

Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been re-elected as the Lagos State chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Akinsanya, along with Alhaji Sulyman Ojora (Deputy Chairman), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle (Treasurer), and 20 other executive members, were elected unopposed at the 10th quadrennial state delegates conference held at the union’s secretariat in Agege.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Adejare Kembi, the Principal of Excel Practitioners, in the presence of Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore, the acting National President of the union, Kabiru Ado Yau, the former National Secretary, Eshomounu Itemoagbo, Controller of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Lagos Office, Anthony Ogwu, Assistant Chief Labour Officer in the ministry, Ismail Adejumo, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Lagos State Public Relations Officer, and other dignitaries.

Akinsanya expressed gratitude to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Ore-led national body of the union, and other stakeholders for their support during a recent crisis. He commended the union members for their perseverance and loyalty, promising increased assistance for them. Akinsanya pledged to continue his reform policies that have positively impacted the union’s activities in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by Lateef Tiamiyu, a director in the state Ministry of Transportation, applauded the union members for re-electing Akinsanya and praised his leadership qualities and transformative impact on the union’s activities in the state. The governor urged NURTW members to continue supporting government policies and emphasized the shift away from violent methods for effecting leadership changes within the union.

Itemoagbo commended Akinsanya’s employment of approximately 123 graduates in various units of the union, pledging continued collaboration to ensure more employment opportunities within the union. Alhaji Ore, the acting National President, congratulated Akinsanya and other executive members, urging them to demonstrate leadership, capacity, and sacrifice in their service to the union. He emphasized the importance of harmonious collaboration between leadership and followership to improve the union’s fortunes.

“Those elected must carry others along. I therefore urge you all to try as much as possible to run an open administration that will be devoid of victimisation. Be committed to fairness, equity and justice so that unity and harmony will prevail among members of this great union at the various levels,” he said.

The state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, who was represented by Olatunji Oladimeji, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), commended Akinsanya and called for stronger collaboration between the police and the union.
