Monaco Part Ways With Paul Pogba After Just One Season

Former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is set to leave Monaco after the Ligue 1 club terminated his contract following a challenging spell largely disrupted by injuries.

According to IReporter Online, Monaco announced the decision on Wednesday, ending Pogba’s contract almost a year earlier than its original expiration date of June 2027.

The 33-year-old joined the French club last year after completing an 18-month suspension for a doping offence, with hopes of rebuilding his career and returning to regular top-level football.

However, persistent fitness problems severely limited his involvement. Pogba made just six Ligue 1 appearances last season, featuring for a combined 115 minutes.

He is currently recovering from a thigh injury after previously dealing with a knee problem. Monaco explained that the objectives agreed upon with the midfielder had been only partially fulfilled, prompting both parties to end their agreement.

Despite his limited contribution on the pitch, Monaco praised Pogba for his professionalism and influence within the dressing room.

The club highlighted his determination, positive mentality and high standards, noting that he continued to support teammates by sharing his experience and knowledge while sidelined by injuries.

Pogba also acknowledged that his time at Monaco had fallen short of his expectations.

The former France international expressed disappointment over his limited playing opportunities while thanking the club’s president, management, teammates, staff and supporters for their support during his time in Monaco.

Before joining the French side, Pogba enjoyed an illustrious career at Manchester United and Juventus. He made 233 appearances across two spells with the English club and established himself as one of Europe’s leading midfielders during his time in Italy.

At Juventus, he won four Serie A titles and was named the league’s Player of the Year.

Pogba was also a key member of France’s squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

His career later suffered a major setback after he tested positive for a prohibited substance in 2023 while playing for Juventus. Pogba maintained that the substance came from a dietary supplement prescribed by a doctor in the United States.

He was initially handed a four-year suspension, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport later reduced the punishment to 18 months following his appeal.

After completing the suspension, Pogba joined Monaco hoping to revive his career. However, injuries prevented him from establishing himself in the team, ultimately bringing his short-lived spell at the club to an early end.
