This reaffirmation of the deadline was made today by Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, during the commission’s Special Day at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair. Emphasizing the criticality of linking NINs to SIM cards for national security, Maida reiterated the importance of compliance with the February 28th cutoff date.

“To this end, the NCC has directed all telecommunication operators to suspend phone lines of subscribers who have not linked their NINs to their SIM cards by February 28, 2024,” stated Maida, represented by Reuben Mouka, the Director of Public Affairs at the NCC.

With the telecommunications industry’s contribution to the nation’s GDP standing at 13.5% in 2023, according to the Nigerian Gross Domestic Product Report, November 2023, published by the National Bureau of Statistics, the NCC remains steadfast in promoting economic growth while safeguarding consumer rights.

As part of its efforts to enhance service delivery and consumer experience, the NCC has mandated licensed Mobile Network Operators to utilize approved Harmonised Short Codes for offering services to Nigerian telecom consumers.
