According to Femi Babafemi, the agency’s director of media and advocacy, NDLEA operatives conducting a stop and search operation on the Gbongan – Ibadan expressway in Osun state discovered over 5.2 kg of cannabis sativa and opiates hidden in the engine compartment of an interstate commercial bus. The bus driver, Iorliam Sughnen Dominic, aged 35, was detained for further investigation.
In a separate raid in Osogbo, Osun state, a 26-year-old lady named Obasanmi Esther Iyanu was apprehended for producing and distributing skuchies. The raid yielded 16.5 liters of the illicit substance along with various quantities of molly and cannabis.
Meanwhile, in Lagos, NDLEA agents arrested one Aba Thomas in the Igbo Elerin area. Upon his detention, authorities found 84 liters of skuchies, 1.1 liters of codeine syrup, 4 kg of cannabis sativa, and 800 25 mg tramadol tablets in his possession.
The agency’s operations have also extended to other states across Nigeria, resulting in numerous arrests and seizures. Notably, a 70-year-old grandfather and a 65-year-old individual were arrested for drug trafficking in Borno state, along with several other suspects apprehended in different locations across the country.
The NDLEA has been conducting comprehensive drug supply reduction operations alongside advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. These efforts include sensitization lectures in schools, markets, worship centers, and communities, as well as advocacy visits to government officials and stakeholders.
As the NDLEA intensifies its crackdown on drug-related crimes, it continues to emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts in combating drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.
