The golden streak for Nigerian para-powerlifters commenced on Wednesday, March 20, with Bose Bejide claiming the first gold medal in the -50kg category, showcasing exceptional power and determination.

The momentum continued on the following day, as Esther Nworgu, a silver medalist at the 2023 Para Powerlifting World Cup in Dubai, triumphed in the -41kg category, clinching Nigeria’s second gold amidst fierce competition.

Following the dominant performance by Nigerian women’s para-athletes on Wednesday, the men’s team upheld the winning spirit on Thursday, March 21.

Thomas Kure asserted his dominance in the -65kg weight class, securing Nigeria’s third gold medal of the competition with an unstoppable performance.

Meanwhile, Roland Ezuruike showcased remarkable technical skills in the -54kg category, securing Nigeria’s fourth gold medal at the tournament.

Nigeria still holds promising opportunities to claim more gold medals during the remaining days of the six-day tournament. Athletes such as Onyinyechi Mark (women’s -61kg), Kafila Almaruf (women’s -73kg), Folashade Oluwafemiayo (women’s -86kg), Bose Omolayo (women’s -79kg), and Loveline Obiji (women’s -86kg) are among Nigeria’s hopefuls aiming for gold in their respective categories.
