According to a trader at Emab Plaza, known as Mr. Somto, who spoke with our correspondent via phone on Monday, confirmed the closure of Banex Plaza, noting the presence of army personnel at the location.
Another shop owner, speaking anonymously, confirmed the closure and mentioned ongoing discussions with the army regarding the situation.
The FCT Police Command deployed officers of the Intelligence Response Team to the area on Saturday after a conflict between traders and soldiers occurred. A viral video showed civilians overpowering soldiers during the altercation at Banex Plaza.
In response to the situation, the Nigerian Army reportedly retaliated by storming the plaza on Saturday evening, allegedly assaulting passersby and maintaining a heavy presence, as depicted in circulating videos.
