Oyetola emphasized the significance of aligning any concession agreement with the vision of modernizing the ports. He highlighted the need to revamp port infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency and attract investment while ensuring minimal disruption to port activities during the rehabilitation process.
The minister recalled the port reforms initiated in 2005/2006 to improve operational efficiency and revenue generation. However, he noted challenges such as expired leases, inadequate depth for vessel reception, and infrastructure deficiencies that hinder optimal port performance.
Despite the setbacks, Oyetola reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing the ports and maximizing their potential. The proposed investment underscores the government’s determination to address long-standing issues and usher in a new era of efficiency and productivity in Nigeria’s port sector.
