She emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to resolving the issues that led to previous industrial actions while implementing necessary reforms for long-term economic stability.
Speaking at her 17th annual free medical outreach in Isuochi, Abia State, Onyejeocha expressed confidence that the concerns raised by ASUU, including salary arrears and the transition from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System (IPPS) to the University Transparency and Accountability System (UTAS), would soon be addressed.
She highlighted the ongoing productive discussions between the government and ASUU, assuring that solutions are in sight. Onyejeocha also referenced recent meetings with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as part of efforts to avoid a looming nationwide strike, noting the importance of transparency about the government’s current actions.
On economic reforms, Onyejeocha acknowledged the short-term difficulties but stressed that these reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, are critical to Nigeria’s long-term growth. On security, Onyejeocha acknowledged that the government is also addressing the impact of insecurity on farming and food production, with efforts underway to restore safety for farmers.
