According to Ireporter Online, renowned Nigerian music producer and record executive, Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about the difficult period following the collapse of the iconic Mo’Hits Records, which he co-founded with D’banj. The music mogul revealed that the experience taught him resilience and the importance of never allowing setbacks to define him.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Don Jazzy recounted how the unexpected end of Mo’Hits in 2012 left him devastated and contemplating leaving the music industry entirely. He admitted that at one point, he considered relocating abroad and abandoning his career. However, the encouragement and support he received from close friends convinced him to remain in Nigeria and rebuild from scratch — a decision that led to the birth of Mavin Records, now one of Africa’s most successful music labels.

Reflecting on that turning point, Don Jazzy said, “When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me.”

Following the split of Mo’Hits, Don Jazzy’s new label, Mavin Records, became home to many former Mo’Hits artists, including Wande Coal, Dr SID, and D’Prince, while also nurturing a new generation of stars such as Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Di’ja. Today, Mavin boasts a vibrant roster featuring Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, Johnny Drille, and DJ Big N.

In 2024, Mavin Records achieved another major milestone when Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin Global, marking a significant step in the label’s global expansion and reinforcing Don Jazzy’s legacy as a powerhouse in African music.
