NPFL Update: Alex Otti Appoints New Enyimba Coach As Enugu Rangers Star Defender Announces Exit

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved the appointment of Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the new head coach of Enyimba International FC. According to Ireporter Online, the announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who noted that Enyimba, widely regarded as Nigeria’s most successful football club, has struggled to maintain its historic standards in recent seasons.

Kanu emphasized that the Otti administration is committed to restoring the club’s prominence through professionalism, sustainability, and strong corporate governance, describing the selection of Deutsch Detchoua as central to achieving this vision. “The appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is part of strategic efforts to reinvigorate the technical direction of the club, strengthen its competitive edge, and lay a solid foundation for long-term success,” the statement read.

According to the release, the new coach brings extensive experience to the role, holding CAF A, B, and C coaching licenses. He has previously served as Technical Adviser and Head Coach at reputable clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, earning recognition including the Nigeria National League Best Coach Award in 2025. Governor Otti expressed confidence that Deutsch Detchoua’s technical expertise and professional discipline would play a key role in the rebuilding process at the People’s Elephant.

The appointment follows the brief tenure of former Crown FC coach Deji Ayeni, whose appointment failed to immediately reverse Enyimba’s fortunes, as the team recently lost 2-0 to Niger Tornadoes in Minna.

Elsewhere in the Nigeria Professional Football League, Rangers International have parted ways with left-back Evans Ogbonda. According to Ireporter Online, Ogbonda confirmed his exit in an emotional farewell message to the Flying Antelopes, bringing an end to his spell at the Enugu club. Having joined Rangers in 2024, Ogbonda expressed gratitude to the club’s management, technical staff, and supporters for their support and guidance. He is expected to join a new club before the close of the current transfer window.
