Obi Cannot Provide Needed Leadership” – Sambo Makes Bold Claim Ahead Of 2027

According to Ireporter Online, Sambo made the comments during Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, where he advised Obi to create a stronger political structure that would allow the movement to survive beyond individual political ambitions.

He described the Obidient Movement as a significant political force that should not be completely dependent on Obi’s presidential ambition, comparing it with the historic Zikist Movement, which supported Nigeria’s first President, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Sambo argued that the movement could continue to influence Nigerian politics even if Obi does not emerge as president in the future.

“The Obidient Movement is greater than Peter Obi himself. If I were Peter Obi, I would look for a way to structure it above my ambition,” he said.

The Arise TV director noted that the major challenge facing the movement is the lack of a strong organisational framework capable of sustaining the enthusiasm of its supporters.

He explained that many young Nigerians associated with the movement have strong passion for political change but require proper coordination and leadership to achieve their goals.

Sambo, however, expressed reservations about Obi’s ability to provide the type of leadership needed to transform the movement into a structured political organisation.

He said the demands and expectations of the movement had become larger than the personality of its founder and presidential candidate.

The journalist also referenced the resignation of Comrade Isaac Balami, a former Deputy Campaign Manager of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, as an indication of internal challenges within the movement.

According to Sambo, Balami’s exit raised questions about issues relating to campaign funding, strategy and organisational management during the 2023 presidential election.

He further criticised Obi for allegedly failing to convene a comprehensive post-election review meeting after the 2023 election, saying such a meeting would have helped supporters assess the campaign, strengthen unity and plan the movement’s future direction.

Sambo maintained that building a sustainable political structure remains the key challenge for the Obidient Movement as it continues to attract attention ahead of future elections.
