Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed Manchester United fans for their support after he was dismissed by the club following their Premier League defeat against Watford.

The former Cardiff and Molde boss was dismissed following a fifth defeat across seven league outings that left the Red Devils seventh in the table and 12 points off top.

Having spent hours at their Carrington training base after being sacked on Sunday, it emerged that the Norwegian took part in an unusual farewell interview with the club.

Mentioning his playing days, Solskjaer said: “They’ve [the fans] been amazing with me since one of my first kicks on the ball, I scored with one of the first ones, until now.

“And I’m sure we’ll meet again because if there’s anywhere, I’m going to watch football games, that’s from Old Trafford.”

Adding when asked about his plans to return: “Definitely. If you want me pitchside with you, I’m there!

“No, I’m very happy and proud with what I’ve done with the good friends I’ve made, and I wish all the best to everyone.

“You know the staff here, we’ve been through criticisms and blah, blah, blah, but the way they conduct themselves and the way they work, the knowledge and the attitude, I admire them.

“Normally, I drive in at seven, half seven at times and I think, ‘I’ve caught them today, I’m in before them’ but no chance. There’s not been a day.”
