Organized Labour Rejects Federal Government’s N48,000 Minimum Wage Offer

The dismissal occurred during the resumed tripartite committee meeting on Wednesday, May 15, where union leaders staged a walkout in protest.

In a joint statement delivered to reporters by NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC Deputy President Comrade Tommy Okon, the labor centers characterized the government’s proposal as a “mockery” and an “affront to workers’ dignity.” They censured the leadership of the Bola Tinubu-led government, alleging a lack of commitment to providing workers with a wage that sustains a decent standard of living.

The NLC and TUC have recently put forward a proposal of N615,000 as the minimum wage, citing the elevated cost of living as the rationale behind their recommendation.
