Osun Election: PDP Candidate Denies Filing Petition Against Adeleke
The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the August 15 Osun State election, Adebayo Adedamola, has denied filing or authorising any petition challenging the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
According to Ireporter Online, Adedamola’s denial followed the appearance of a petition at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, purportedly filed in his name.
The petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, reportedly listed Adeleke, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Accord Party as respondents.
However, speaking during an interview with TVC on Monday, Adedamola said neither he nor his legal representatives instituted the case.
“There’s no petition filed by me or my counsel. So, I don’t know where they manufactured the petition they submitted at the tribunal,” he said.
The PDP candidate also disclosed that he had not received any communication from his lawyer or the leadership of the party indicating plans to challenge the outcome of the governorship election in court.
He said there had also been no meeting where a decision was taken to pursue a post-election legal challenge.
“There has never been any meeting where a decision has been reached to challenge the decision of the court,” Adedamola said.
His position comes amid a similar denial by the All Progressives Congress over another petition displayed at the tribunal and reportedly filed in the name of its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Explaining his decision not to challenge Adeleke’s victory, Adedamola said he had publicly supported the governor before the August 15 election.
He recalled that the PDP held a press conference on August 13, where the party publicly backed Adeleke’s candidacy.
Adedamola further stated that he voted for Adeleke during the election, questioning why he would subsequently file a petition against the governor’s victory.
“I even voted for Governor Adeleke of the Accord party. Why would I now change today and be filing any petition against him?” he asked.
