Osun Tension: Suspected Thugs Attack APC Chieftains, Destroy Properties
Suspected political thugs have allegedly attacked members and properties linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in several parts of Osun State following the announcement of the results of the governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, the reported incidents occurred in communities including Ilesa, Iperindo, Atakumosa East, Modakeke and Ikire, with APC members alleging that supporters of the Accord Party were responsible.
One of the reported attacks targeted the political office and residence of Oluremi Omowaiye, the Media Head of the APC Governorship Campaign Council.
The APC-linked political office at Oke Omiru and Omowaiye’s residence in the Ilaje area of Ilesa were reportedly vandalised during the incident. A source familiar with the development also claimed that sporadic gunshots were heard while the attack was ongoing.
In Iperindo, suspected thugs were also said to have attacked the residence of APC stakeholder Omoniyi Dotun, popularly known as Adamo.
According to reports, the attackers allegedly damaged his Toyota Venza and caused residents in the area to flee their homes for safety.
Similar incidents were reportedly recorded in parts of Atakumosa East and neighbouring communities. A local figure identified as Adam Saka was also said to have been assaulted in Omi Odo during the unrest.
The alleged attacks have heightened concerns among APC supporters, who questioned the motive behind the reported violence following the conclusion of the election.
Party members have called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and take appropriate action to prevent further unrest.
They also urged political leaders and supporters across the state to exercise restraint and ensure that disagreements arising from the election do not escalate into further violence.
The reported incidents come amid heightened political tensions in Osun State following the governorship election, which produced Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner.
