Parents Of Nigerian Students In Ukraine Protest At Russian Embassy

Parents of Nigerian students in Ukraine

Parents of Nigerian students studying in Ukraine and concerned stakeholders, on Monday, staged a peaceful protest at the Russian Embassy in Abuja.

The protest was to seek government’s intervention on their children stranded in the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

The protesters, bearing placards with inscriptions such as, “Our children, our future”; “Stop war, let peace reign”, also called on the warring parties to cease fire and sue for peace.

Speaking with journalists, some parents noted that they had invested a lot in sponsoring their wards to study abroad, so that they could afterwards return in one piece and be useful to their families, their country and the global community.

The concerned parents also shared their fears saying it would be counter-productive and disastrous should anything bad happen to their children, who had reportedly been racially victimised in the menacing trend brought upon by the unhealthy conflict.

While urging the FG to mobilize adequate welfare support and diplomatic aid in ensuring the safety and non-victimisation of their children in the diaspora, the parents appealed to the Russian and Ukrainian authorities to, in the interest of global peace, seek fruitful dialogue in de-escalating the ensuing tensions.
