PDP Directs State Chairmen To Identify Members Involved In Anti-party Activities

The PDP emphasized the need to identify and sanction individuals involved in such activities.
Umar Bature, the party’s National Organising Secretary, made this known during a meeting of the National Working Committee with state chairmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
Following the 2023 elections, numerous party members have called for sanctions against certain individuals allegedly involved in anti-party activities.
Despite a reluctance from the National Working Committee to take immediate action over the past 11 months, Bature stressed the importance of compiling post-election reports from the states to inform decisions at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Addressing the state chairmen, Bature stated, “A lot of agitations are coming from party members, suspend this, suspend that, you are the ones that are in charge of those states. You are to tell us who was involved in anti-party activities and who did not; and based on that, the NEC will take a decision. Write to us and tell us what transpired, no matter what happened.”
Additionally, the Tuesday meeting aimed to review the tenure of 26 state chairmen whose terms had expired. Bature explained that the review was necessary to address potential vacancies and crises within the party.
He elaborated, “We have about four or five states that their tenures have expired from the ward to the state, that is Edo, Bayelsa, Gombe, and Rivers states. There are others that are staggered. So, in order not to create a vacuum or go into a crisis that is why we have called this meeting.”
As the party navigates internal issues and prepares for future elections, collaboration between the national leadership and state chapters remains crucial for maintaining unity and effectiveness.
