Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command have arrested a suspected notorious gunrunner and recovered twenty AK-47 rifles from him.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, police operatives who were conducting a routine patrol at Buruku Bridge in Igabi Local Government Area on Thursday, intercepted a black Golf III saloon vehicle driven by the suspect, one Bitrus Gyang, who is an indigene of Bakin Ladi in Plateau State.
He said that upon a thorough search of the suspect’s vehicle, the officers discovered twenty locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and an empty Type 06 magazine hidden in the vehicle’s boot.
The police said that the suspect during interrogation confessed to being a gunrunner and revealed that he had transported fabricated rifles on at least three previous occasions.
It said the suspect is cooperating with the police and efforts are underway to track down his other accomplices.
