Following suspicions of their involvement in aiding the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to evade law enforcement, the Nigeria Police Force has detained his female aide-de-camp (ADC) and several other police officers. The officers were withdrawn from Bello’s service after he managed to evade arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday. Sources within the police, speaking anonymously, revealed that the ADC and other officers are under investigation for potentially abetting Bello’s escape, causing a stir within security circles.
This development is significant in the ongoing case against Bello, who faces corruption allegations from his tenure as governor. According to police sources, the detained officers are suspected of aiding and abetting Bello’s escape from the EFCC.
Inspector General Egbetokun had previously ordered the withdrawal of all police officers attached to Bello, emphasizing strict compliance with the directive. The move underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement authorities are treating the situation, signaling a critical turn in the legal proceedings against Bello.
