Premier League: Glasner’s Crystal Palace Return Ends In Defeat As Hull Hold Everton To 2-2 Draw
Oliver Glasner endured a disappointing return to Crystal Palace as Nottingham Forest suffered a 3-1 defeat at Selhurst Park, while Hull City battled back to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton at the MKM Stadium.
Nottingham Forest made a bright start to their encounter with Crystal Palace, taking the lead in the third minute through Dan Ndoye, who finished neatly against his former club.
Forest controlled much of the opening half and came close to extending their advantage, but Palace goalkeeper Walter Benitez produced an important save to deny Liam Delap from close range.
Crystal Palace responded strongly before the interval, with Daichi Kamada restoring parity four minutes before half-time. The midfielder finished a well-worked attacking move to score his first Premier League goal.
The hosts completed the turnaround deep into first-half stoppage time when Jefferson Lerma rose to head Palace into a 2-1 lead, leaving Forest with work to do after their early advantage.
Palace maintained their momentum after the restart, and Yeremy Pino increased their lead with a low finish into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
The goal sparked celebrations among the home supporters, some of whom directed taunts at Glasner, who left Crystal Palace at the end of the previous season after leading the club to FA Cup and Conference League success.
Benitez further frustrated Forest late in the game with another crucial save to keep out substitute Chris Wood and preserve Palace’s two-goal advantage.
The victory moved Crystal Palace up to 12th place in the Premier League standings and marked their second win of the season, while Nottingham Forest dropped to 14th.
Elsewhere, Hull City preserved their unbeaten home record after Mohamed Belloumi scored a late equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton.
Hull opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when Joe Gelhardt capitalised on a misplaced pass from Ainsley Maitland-Niles, slipping the ball past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Everton responded before the break as Maitland-Niles delivered a cross that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall converted with a header at the back post to restore parity.
The visitors completed their comeback in the 68th minute after Sorba Thomas lost possession. Dewsbury-Hall then set up Thierno Barry, who finished confidently to give Everton a 2-1 advantage.
Hull refused to surrender, however, and drew level with 16 minutes remaining when Belloumi fired past Pickford following a cut-back from Elliot Stroud.
The Algeria international had started the match on the bench after returning from international duty, during which he had scored for his country.
The draw meant Hull missed the opportunity to break into the Premier League’s top four but took their points tally to nine from six matches, having recorded two victories and three draws.
The two encounters produced contrasting outcomes, with Crystal Palace claiming a comeback victory over Forest and Hull showing resilience to deny Everton all three points.
