Dr. Salma Anas-Kolo, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, reiterated this commitment during a press briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday, February 13th.

Salma-Kolo affirmed the government’s determination to resolve issues raised by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), emphasizing the significance of bolstering healthcare services, particularly maternal and child health.

In addition to addressing the concerns outlined by the nursing association, the presidential aide pledged to prioritize enhancements in the working conditions and welfare of healthcare professionals across the nation.

Highlighting the pivotal role of nurses and midwives in healthcare delivery, Salma-Kolo underscored their indispensability, noting that they often interacted with patients more extensively than any other medical personnel.

In recent developments, members of NANNM staged protests in Abuja and Lagos, expressing discontent over perceived hindrances to their career pursuits. Their grievances encompassed issues such as welfare, salary structures, staff shortages, and professional rights.

The nursing regulatory council’s revised guidelines, particularly pertaining to certificate verification, have sparked concerns within the nursing community. Among the stipulations, applicants seeking verification from foreign nursing bodies must possess a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience.
