Governor Yusuf also conveyed his appreciation for President Tinubu’s understanding and willingness to give the minors a second chance.

“I want to sincerely thank President Tinubu for his compassion in answering the calls of various stakeholders within and outside Nigeria. His Excellency has shown true empathy and a commitment to justice, and we are immensely grateful,” he remarked.

The 76 minors, who were detained in connection with the August protests, will be flown back to Kano, where they will undergo medical assessments and receive necessary care before being reunited with their families.

Governor Yusuf assured that the children will be reintegrated into society, with plans for their enrollment in local schools, offering them opportunities to rebuild their lives.

A statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, emphasized, “Considering the serious charges, we believe in giving these children a second chance. While their actions were unfortunate, as minors, they deserve the opportunity to rehabilitate and contribute positively to society.”

A dedicated medical team has been appointed to assess the physical and mental health of the released minors, after which they will return to their families with ongoing support for a normal, productive life.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, during the handover, highlighted that the President’s decision to pardon the teenagers was motivated by humanitarian concerns. “Of the 119 minors detained over the protests, which resulted in a loss exceeding 3 billion naira, 76 were from Kano, and they have now been handed over to Governor Yusuf.

Three minors have already reunited with their families, while 39 others from Kaduna have been handed over to Governor Uba Sani,” the Vice President explained.
