PSC Rejects Jonathan’s Ex-Aide’s Service Extension, Orders Salary Refund

The Police Service Commission on Tuesday rejected the service extension granted Abdulkarim Dauda, a former Chief Security Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan, by a former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

Dauda, a Commissioner of Police, due to retire in January 2020, had his service extended to January 2023 by the former IGP.

He was also ordered to refund the salaries earned between the period.

The PSC board, at their 13th plenary meeting, frowned at the former IGP’s move, saying Dauda wrote to the commission to promote him to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

The Commissioner representing the Media and the South-South Zone in the commission, Austin Braimo while addressing journalists in Abuja after the meeting also announced the promotion of two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

Six Commissioners of Police were also promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police.

“We want to ensure that justice is done. That is what the board has done. We took the decision so that it will act as a deterrent. The board has taken a decision and the decision will be communicated to the IG,” Braimo said.

He said 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police; and 24 Assistant Commissioners of Police, to the rank of DCP.
