In response to the devastation, the Ejeh of Ofu, Akwu Obaje, urgently called for assistance for the affected victims. He expressed deep concern over the scale of the destruction, which impacted six villages, including Itobe, Adumu, Oladebu, Ajegwu, and Itagidi.
“The destruction is overwhelming, with roofs ripped off buildings, trees uprooted, and power lines downed,” Obaje stated. “Many families have been left without shelter, and the community is in desperate need of help.”
The traditional ruler appealed to the government, as well as corporate organizations and individuals, to provide immediate relief to the victims and assist in rebuilding their lives.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Itobe District during this challenging time,” Obaje added. “We call on the government and compassionate Nigerians to help restore hope to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.”
The storm, which brought heavy rains and strong winds, left residents in urgent need of shelter, medical care, and food supplies. Vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly, are especially at risk.
Several victims, including Atabo Okolo from Oladebu, Momoh Alifiya from Adumu, and Usman Gene from Itobe-Niniya, appealed for immediate assistance. “We urgently need help to rebuild our lives as this disaster has made the already difficult economic situation worse,” said Okolo. Gene also urged the government and relevant agencies to collaborate and provide the necessary support for the affected communities.
