Governor Alex Otti, addressing the congregation at Christ The King Catholic Church (CKC) in Aba, assured the pensioners that their outstanding dues would be settled by the end of Thursday, March 28, 2024. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling this promise earlier made to the people of Abia during his address.

Following the governor’s declaration, pensioners expressed their gratitude as they began receiving bank alerts confirming the payment of their pensions. Among those who received the payments were individuals like Mrs. Lucy Samuel Nne, Onyema Agbandu, and Kalu Ogbonna. They expressed their appreciation to Governor Otti for fulfilling his campaign promise and criticized previous administrations for their alleged neglect of pensioners.

Emeka Okezie, the Chairman of Concerned Abia Pensioners, who had previously led protests against the former Abia State government, was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting. However, some pensioners mentioned that they were yet to receive their credit alerts, indicating that the process may still be ongoing.

The payment of accumulated pensions marks a significant milestone for retired civil servants in Abia State, providing them with much-needed financial relief and recognizing their years of service to the state.
