This plan was unveiled by Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Geographic Information System and Urban Development, during a clean-up enforcement exercise in the Jakande area of Lekki on Sunday.

Babatunde emphasized that the Lagos State Government had issued a four-day ultimatum to squatters residing along the Coastal Road in the Lekki area, directing them to vacate illegal shanties and settlements near the Regional Road Alignment.

He further stated that residents were encouraged to provide input and suggestions regarding the proposed building code to ensure it aligns with their needs and preferences.

“The living conditions of the people in this area are deplorable and unacceptable. We aim to assist these individuals in relocating to safer and more suitable accommodations where they can live comfortably without being exposed to health hazards,” Babatunde remarked.

Addressing concerns about the Jakande houses, Babatunde clarified that the government has a comprehensive plan for the regeneration, renewal, and redevelopment of the area, emphasizing that the removal of structures would follow established procedures.

The move underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing urban development and ensuring that buildings in Lagos meet modern standards for safety, aesthetics, and functionality.
