Senator Ndume Responds To Agom-Jarigbe’s N500m Claim Regarding 2024 Budget

Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, has addressed claims made by Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe regarding the allocation of funds for constituency projects in the 2024 Appropriation Act. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Senator Ndume explained the disparity in funding, stating, “All the senators have N200m (each) as their constituency projects but I am a leader. That is the difference. 10 of us are leaders including those in the opposition. We get more than the floor members. It’s normal…My colleagues know that I go more than them.”

The response comes after Senator Agom-Jarigbe alleged that some senators received N500 million each from the 2024 Budget for constituency projects. Senator Ndume acknowledged the disparity in funding but emphasized that it was a decision collectively agreed upon by the senators.

He further elaborated on the process, indicating, “That decision is taken by the senators. We have the senate budget committee before but now the floor members entrusted that to the presiding officers. That’s the difference. So, most of the senators don’t know what I get and I will not tell you.”

Senator Ndume’s remarks shed light on the internal workings and allocations within the Senate, providing insights into the distribution of funds for constituency projects.
