Alongside Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Senate approved Dr. Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and Muhammadu Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment.
The confirmations also include Idi Muktar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
After a rigorous five-hour screening process, the nominees were confirmed via a voice vote presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Each nominee shared their strategies for advancing their respective ministries, outlining reforms and objectives aimed at boosting Nigeria’s development.
This confirmation marks a new chapter for several ministries following the recent transition of leadership. Iman Sulaiman-Ibrahim was sworn in as the Minister of Women Affairs on Monday, succeeding Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, while the Ministry of Tourism also welcomed a new leader, with Lola Ade-John handing over to the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy.
The Senate previously suspended its procedural rules to allow Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, to accompany the nominees into the plenary session.
The confirmed ministers will be sworn in by President Bola Tinubu, allowing them to participate in the upcoming Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. The next FEC meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 4, promising a fresh perspective following the cabinet reshuffle.
