Several Trapped As Building Collapses In Minna

The building, located in the Sabon Gari area of Minna, collapsed on Friday, May 17, 2024.
Emergency officials rushed to the scene and succeeded in rescuing seven individuals who are currently receiving treatment at the Minna General Hospital.
At the time of this report, manual evacuation of the debris has begun, and authorities have indicated that machinery will be quickly mobilized to aid in the rescue of those still trapped.
The immediate cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.
Hussaini Ibrahim, the Director of Information and Special Duties at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, stated that the rescue operation is ongoing.
Additionally, Bako Ismail, the General Manager of the Niger State Urban Development Board, revealed that the building had been illegally converted into a story building. He claimed that the board had made repeated attempts to stop the property owner from the illegal conversion.
