The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his defection to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). According to Ireporter Online, the announcement was made on Saturday at the Government House in Bauchi following a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders in the state. The National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, was present at the gathering where the governor officially declared his new political alignment.

Prior to his exit from the PDP, Mohammed held the influential position of chairman of the party’s Governors’ Forum, a role that placed him at the forefront of strategic engagements among PDP governors nationwide. His defection is said to have been accompanied by a significant number of loyalists, including members aligned with the faction led by Tanimu Turaki within the party’s structure in Bauchi State.

Sources indicated that the meeting preceding the announcement involved prominent political actors, although specific details of the deliberations were not disclosed.

In a related development, the governor stated that he would not pursue a presidential bid, citing the party’s decision to zone the position to the southern region as a matter of equity. He, however, confirmed his intention to contest for the Bauchi South senatorial seat, explaining that the decision was influenced by appeals from his constituents and his desire to continue serving them while supporting party candidates.
