“Social Media Has Turned Into A Begging Site” – Yhemolee Laments Digital Decay

According to reports gathered by Ireporter Online, Nigerian media personality and actor Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has voiced his displeasure over what he describes as the increasing “begging culture” on social media platforms.

The entertainer lamented that platforms once celebrated for creativity, entertainment, and connection have now become hubs for online solicitation. Taking to his Instagram page, the father of one criticized users who flood comment sections with their bank account details in hopes of receiving financial assistance from strangers.

Yhemolee noted that the only thing separating online beggars from those on the streets is their access to internet data. He expressed dismay at how social media has lost its original purpose, transforming into what he termed a “virtual begging site.”

“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore. It’s now a begging site. The only difference is that unlike beggars on the road, beggars on the internet have data,” he stated. “These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are account numbers. My major problem is those who have a PhD in begging. Please omit all those begging from my own picture,” he added.

Yhemolee, who gained fame with his 2020 hit Mon Cheri featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake, and his roles in Nollywood films such as Gangs of Lagos and Alakada: Bad and Boujee, urged those indulging in what he called the “art of begging” to refrain from invading his social media posts.

He further stressed that social media has drifted far from its purpose as a space for creativity and meaningful interaction, warning that if unchecked, the growing trend of online begging could erode the authenticity of digital engagement.
