STRIKE: SSANU, NASU, NAATS Protest, Block UNILAG Gate
A peaceful protest organized by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAATS) took place at the gate of the University of Lagos on Wednesday, causing disruption to traffic flow in the area…….READ ALSO Nigerian Government Appeals To SSANU, NASU To End Warning Strike
The protesters halted the movement of vehicles and sang songs while displaying signs to express their grievances to the Federal Government regarding the non-payment of their salaries.
For about a month, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU has been engaging with the government, highlighting their exclusion from the salary payments that commenced for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in February.
Recall that during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, ASUU, SSANU, and NAATS experienced salary withholding due to the implementation of a ‘No Work, No Pay policy.’ This action was in response to their respective strikes lasting eight months, four months, and five-and-a-half months in 2022.
Today marks the commencement of a three-day warning strike initiated by NAATS, further amplifying the ongoing protests.
Details of the protest will be provided later.
