Strong APC Chieftain Urges Tinubu, Senate To Reverse Wike’s Ministerial Confirmation, Gives Reason
Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Senate to give consideration to the European Union (EU) election observation report regarding the conduct of the 2023 general election in Rivers State…CONTINUE READING
He has also called for the reversal of the confirmation of former Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as a minister.
Eze has asserted that the nomination of Wike as a minister and his subsequent screening and approval by the Senate, along with 45 other nominees, goes against principles of decency.
According to him, the available information on Wike does not qualify him to hold such a position.
In a statement provided in Port Harcourt, Eze expressed his disappointment at the President’s disregard for various reports and opinions that have highlighted Wike’s lack of qualification for public office in present-day Nigeria. Even the security checks conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly yielded damaging results that should have disqualified him.
Eze, a member of the APC, stated: “The European Union (EU) Election Observatory report for the 2023 election specifically pointed out the former Governor’s wrongdoings, including his disrespect for the law and blatant violations of regulations. His behavior, characterized by desperation and crude actions, tarnished Nigeria’s global reputation and caused embarrassment during the elections. This imposition of Wike’s nomination at a time when the nation is trying to restore its electoral credibility internationally is nothing short of absurd.”
Furthermore, Eze accused Wike of not attracting any foreign investments during his eight-year tenure as governor. He claimed that the state solely relied on federal allocations from Abuja, highlighting that there was zero foreign investment during that period.
Eze commented: “During his time as Governor, Wike failed to bring in any foreign investments, and the state did not witness any significant inflow of foreign funds. He neglected critical areas that required attention for the state’s development, and instead, focused on constructing 12 overhead bridges at exorbitant costs, all for the sake of media attention and popularity. His bragging about legacy projects like overhead bridges is quite outdated in this technological era. Aside from those bridges, he can’t point to any noteworthy achievements during his time in office.”
Eze also criticized the current state of certain projects initiated by Wike, such as the Mother and Child Hospital and the Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Treatment Center, alleging that they are not functioning properly.
In conclusion, Eze expressed concern about the alleged misuse of state funds and questioned the actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in response to these allegations.
