Tax Talks: FG Rolls Out Public Engagement Blitz For Reform Support

The Federal Government is gearing up to launch a nationwide community engagement campaign aimed at fostering public understanding and acceptance of the proposed tax reform bills currently under review in the National Assembly.

Koleosho stated that bridging the gap between the government and citizens is crucial to ensure grassroots support and comprehension of the bills’ long-term benefits for national development.

“This is one of the measures we are implementing to engage Nigerians through accessible channels,” he said. “We believe that a major hurdle to tax compliance worldwide is public mistrust. By fostering understanding, we aim to build trust and turn citizens into advocates for the reforms.”

Koleosho further noted that increasing revenue is essential for Nigeria’s progress, adding, “Taxation empowers citizens to hold the government accountable for spending their money.”

Olufemi Olarinde, Head of Fiscal and Tax Reforms Implementation at FIRS, highlighted that the proposed bills stem from extensive consultations with stakeholders across the country.
