Residents of Umuadara community in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State have apprehended a man allegedly linked to the killing of Wendy Achumba, a student of the College of Nursing, Obowo.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the suspect, identified as Onyema Okonkwo, was arrested following an investigation reportedly coordinated by the community’s youth leadership under Chidiebere Iweajunwa.

The arrest has drawn widespread attention after a video interview allegedly showing the suspect confessing to the crime surfaced online and quickly went viral. In the footage, Okonkwo reportedly claimed that he and another suspect identified simply as Emmanuel visited the victim’s residence around 7 p.m. He allegedly stated that the attack occurred after the nursing student rejected their sexual advances.

The suspect was also heard alleging that he assaulted the victim with a stick, while claiming that his accomplice later returned with a knife that was allegedly used in the fatal attack.

Community sources disclosed that the late student was alone in the apartment at the time of the incident. Reports indicated that two other students who shared the residence had temporarily travelled for their nursing practical experience, leaving Achumba as the only occupant in the compound. The property owner was also said to be based abroad during the period.

Following his arrest by local youths, the suspect was reportedly handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, were unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
