The Real Reason APC Replaced Uzodimma With Masari
According to Ireporter Online, fresh details have surfaced regarding the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to replace Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as Chairman of the party’s National Convention Central Coordination Committee with former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari.
The reshuffle, which was announced on Friday, was influenced by zoning considerations and the need to accord due recognition to senior party leaders. Party insiders explained that the adjustment was part of efforts to maintain internal balance and inclusivity ahead of the national convention.
In an official statement issued by the APC and signed by its National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, Masari was unveiled as chairman of the influential committee, while former Senate President, Pius Anyim, was appointed Vice Chairman I. Governor Uzodimma, who had initially been named chairman of the 73-member committee, was reassigned as treasurer, a move party sources insist should not be interpreted as punitive.
A senior member of the APC National Working Committee disclosed that the leadership considered it appropriate to entrust the chairmanship to elder statesmen who are not currently seeking elective office, noting that their experience would contribute to a more balanced and impartial process.
The party source clarified that Uzodimma’s reassignment was not linked to any internal disagreements, stressing that the Imo governor remains a key figure within the party and will continue to play a significant role, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.
Another high-ranking APC official explained that regional balance also played a role in the decision, especially with President Bola Tinubu hailing from the southern part of the country. According to the source, the party deemed it appropriate for a northern leader to chair the convention committee in the interest of equity.
The official further revealed that the reconstituted committee comprises serving governors, principal officers of the National Assembly, former national chairmen, and key members of the Federal Executive Council, including ministers overseeing defence, interior, and works, among others. The composition, he said, was designed to ensure broad representation and a sense of belonging among stakeholders.
Preparations for the APC National Convention, scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026, are said to be progressing smoothly, with party leaders anticipating a largely consensus-driven process in the emergence of a new National Working Committee.
While several aspirants have reportedly begun purchasing nomination forms, party officials expressed confidence that the convention would be free of rancour.
Efforts to obtain official comments from the APC National Secretary on the reason for Uzodimma’s replacement were unsuccessful, as he declined to offer any explanation on the matter.
