The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 governorship race, expressing determination to secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.

- Born on December 1, 1969, in Kaduna.
- Currently serves as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
- Hails from a Christian family, with his late father being Pastor Francis Osikpomobo Shaibu and his mother, Lucy Momoh.
- Completed his early education at St. Augustine Primary School, Tundu Wada Kaduna, and L.E.A Primary School Barnawa, Kaduna State.
- Obtained his West African Senior School Certificate in 1989 from Saudana Memorial Secondary School, Kawo Kaduna.
- Holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Accounting from the University of Jos (2000) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin (2015).
- Married to Mrs. Maryann Philip-Shaibu and has children.

- In 2015, won the Etsako Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat.
- Became the running mate to Governor Godwin Obaseki in the 2016 Edo State gubernatorial election.
- Resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 16, 2020.
- Denied access to Governor Obaseki by the Department of State Services on August 28, 2023.
- Withdrew a lawsuit against Governor Obaseki on September 5, 2023.
- Moved out of the Government House on September 11, 2023.
- Apologized to Governor Obaseki on September 21, 2023, seeking forgiveness for their political differences.
- Officially declared his intention to run for the 2024 governorship race on November 27, 2023.
