Highlighting Nigeria’s pivotal role in sustaining democracy in Africa and beyond, Tinubu emphasized the nation’s status as the continent’s largest economy and democracy.

Expressing determination to overhaul Nigeria’s leadership landscape, Tinubu stated, “Nigeria, as the giant of Africa, had suffered leadership elephantiasis years back. I am determined to change that. Adhering to the principles of democracy and the rule of law is very important to us.”

Reflecting on his personal sacrifices for democracy, Tinubu emphasized the paramount importance of defending democratic ideals, stating, “I fought for this democracy. I risked my life for it. Military truncation of democracy is unacceptable.”

He urged the United States to evolve a more prudent and pragmatic partnership with Africa, advocating for increased support for democracy-building initiatives.

Tinubu proposed, “It is important for our partners to help strengthen democracy in Africa. Our developmental programmes need serious capital. We are not asking for freebies. All we are asking for is understanding.”

He further suggested the implementation of a “Marshall Plan for Africa,” drawing parallels with the post-World War II reconstruction efforts in Europe.

Tinubu underscored the urgent need for innovative solutions to address Africa’s challenges, urging the United States to consider providing technology and finance to drive economic prosperity on the continent.

Booker assured Tinubu of the United States’ unwavering support, stating, “You have a partner in the United States.”
