Tinubu Government Announces Friday As Public Holiday

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended congratulations to Nigerian workers ahead of the celebration. The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday night by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

In the statement, the Minister praised Nigerian workers for their commitment, resilience, and contributions to national development, stressing that their efforts remain vital to the country’s growth and prosperity. He further urged workers to uphold values of patriotism, productivity, and dedication in the discharge of their duties, noting that such principles are essential for sustainable national development.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare and security of workers across the country, as well as creating an enabling environment for economic progress.

The Minister also called on Nigerians to observe the holiday peacefully and remain law-abiding, while using the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, hard work, and nation-building.
