Tinubu Summons Aiyedatiwa Amid Ondo APC Congress Violence

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly summoned Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, following violent clashes during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre and Akure North Local Government Areas, which allegedly resulted in the deaths of four individuals.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Governor Aiyedatiwa left the state capital for Abuja on Thursday, immediately after the incidents on Wednesday disrupted scheduled party activities. The governor had been preparing to mark his one-year anniversary in office, but cut short plans, including the unveiling of a 100,000-litre water supply project at the Federal University of Technology, Akure Teaching Hospital Complex. He was represented at subsequent anniversary events by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami.

“The summons was dispatched to the governor late Thursday following a series of security reports at the President’s disposal,” a government source stated. The source added that President Tinubu was reportedly displeased over the killings and sought clarification from the governor on the events, despite the state having no organized opposition against the APC. It could not be independently confirmed whether Governor Aiyedatiwa met with the President, but he has since returned to Akure, while the President has yet to comment publicly on the matter.

In a related development, security agencies have intensified operations following the killing of Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledun, the traditional ruler of Agamo Town. The monarch was reportedly abducted and killed by suspected gunmen at about 7:10 p.m. on February 18, 2026.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, led a high-powered delegation—including officials from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Services—to assess the situation. Preliminary investigations indicate that six masked armed men stormed the monarch’s residence, abducted him, and violently attacked him, resulting in his death.

Lawal assured residents that security forces are committed to apprehending the perpetrators. “The Command, in synergy with other security agencies, will spare no effort in ensuring that the perpetrators are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice,” he said. Additional tactical teams and operational assets have been deployed to the area, and residents were urged to provide credible information to support investigations. Lawal emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and security agencies in maintaining peace and stability across Ondo State.
