Tinubu: The Kingmaker Going After The Throne By Osigwe Omo- Ikirodah
R 2

How many days do we have left for the 2023 general elections? This question is not for me oh, as I know the exact days, hours and minutes left, this is a question we should keep asking ourselves if we desire to know the self-truth.

We have no time and procrastination at this point is an offence, every Nigerian who desires changes must join hands with change agents and demand the changes, it is a process and it must be democratic.

Today I would be speaking about the insinuation from some quarters about Tinubu as a kingmaker should not be interested in becoming the King himself.

I have heard arguments even from the APC camp especially those sympathetic to Osinbajo’s presidential bid say, what does Tinubu want again? As a King Maker, he should be satisfied with making kings and should not be a king himself.

Let me lecture those that are against the Kingmaker becoming a King. First of all what are the attributes of a KINGMAKER?

I had to do research on the characteristics of Kingmakers so that we all can be elucidated. Here are six generally acceptable traits of a Kingmaker. Take note there are so many traits of a Kingmaker but for the benefit of space and time, I have limited my submission to just 6 key areas to buttress my point.

Purpose

Gratitude

Energy

Listening Over Talking

Work Before Asking To Be Rewarded

Strong Beliefs & Values

Now before I proceed further take note that these six traits of a successful kingmaker were researched on the internet and not my own opinion or judgement.

Of course, we have identified the fact that Tinubu is a kingmaker so let us break these down and compare vis a vis  Tinubu’s leadership and Kingship status.

1 Purpose.

In defining and dissecting this trait I would simply just lift the quote from the research material I used to simply define Tinubu’s purpose.

“Inspiring leaders believe that success serves a higher purpose. When you ask what motivates them, they talk about making other people successful. Uninspiring leaders believe that success is their higher purpose. When you ask what motivates them, they talk about what makes them personally satisfied.”

Tinubu remains the numero uno in making of leaders. He is purposeful driven.

2. Gratitude

Again same rule used in “purpose” above applies to Gratitude. Let me again lift a quote from my research paper.

“Inspiring leaders are deeply grateful. They know that their success is hugely dependent upon accidents of birth and circumstance. Uninspiring leaders are self-satisfied. They secretly believe their success is a natural result of being smarter and better than everyone else.”

This is an apt description of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Tinubu is gratitude personified.

3. Energy

If I decide to lift word for word from my research papers on the traits of a kingmaker I might be liable for plagiarism so I would chip in my own words here. Kingmakers are leaders who inspire and uplift people. They have the drive to ginger their subordinates.

Take for example since the commencement of his presidential campaigns the Jagaban has been at the forefront dissipating his energy towards his quest. While his mates are busy complaining everywhere the Jagaban is busy strategizing on ways to effect the desired changes the country seeks.

4. Listening Over Talking

One of the attributes of Tinubu that has endeared a lot to him is the ability of the Jagaban to listen carefully to all shades before taking decisions. The South-West where Tinubu’s Kingmaker status is very much active is a witness to these awesome characteristics of a legend.

It is a known fact that some leaders are incapable of hearing anything said by the people they feel are somehow beneath them. Great leaders listen attentively to everyone and take notes of their input. He carries them along and makes them feel like an important member of the team.

5. Work Before Asking To Be Rewarded

The focus is on what you can deliver, and not what the system can reward you. When you put in more of the sacrifices above the reward, success comes knocking.

Tinubu has made men over the years and has maintained his distance when it comes to gratification.

Tinubu’s focus has always been on excellence and how the system can be rewarded by performance, his stewardship as Lagos State Governor and his years as a foremost opposition leader is an attestation to this.

6. Strong Beliefs & Values

Tinubu remains one of the only politicians who has stayed glued to his beliefs and values and has never compromised them in any way. When it was normal for politicians to jump ship for another political party because of selfish and parochial interest, Tinubu remained unwavering and today the APC is the biggest political party in Africa.

If Tinubu was not consistent in upholding his beliefs and values the APC would have been extinct by now. In other words, we could have been addressing the party as the LATE APC OF BLESSED MEMORY.

If these are the traits of a successful King Maker then tell me why the controversy about being a Kingmaker and wanting to be King?

Of course, some people are kings. But the best kings were king-makers first – and will always be king-makers – because these are the ones that better the country they lead.

If we have a successful kingmaker then why are we still looking for a King to take us to the promised land?

Lastly, it is at the discretion of the Kingmaker to decide if he wants to become the King himself.

My brothers and sisters make we follow who know road oh.
