Tobi Amusan Blazes Into 100m Hurdles Final At 2025 World Championships

World record holder and defending champion Tobi Amusan has advanced to another global final, dominating her semifinal heat in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Amusan recorded a time of 12.36 seconds (-0.2), finishing ahead of the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser (12.45s) and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska (12.51s). Her performance reaffirmed her status as one of the sport’s most formidable hurdlers as she prepares for the eagerly awaited final.

The feat comes amid ongoing tensions in Nigerian athletics. Days before the race, Amusan criticized the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) on social media, alleging poor treatment of athletes. She highlighted that competitors received inadequately packaged kits, including a single podium outfit, two undersized track uniforms, and no proper footwear or dinner gear, contrasting sharply with the well-prepared kits provided to Jamaican athletes.

Despite these challenges, Amusan has maintained her focus on the track. At 27, she remains one of Nigeria’s strongest contenders for a gold medal at the World Championships.
